Overseas Crisis Management Seminar

A seminar was held to improve the ability of member companies to respond to crisis by understanding and learning from experiential case examples based on themes such as “First Actions During an Emergency,” “Smooth Accident Handling,” “Necessary Prior Preparations,” and “Measures to Reduce Risks Overseas.” There were over 20 participants, and this was a seminar with a very high level of satisfaction.

Seminar to Prevent Complains with Legal and Attorney Opinions

Instead of a lecture, this was a discussion among 5-6 experts about case examples, with the resulting opinions being announced.

Many participants stated that they were able to recognize their differences in thought compared to other companies.

Additionally, there was a lot of feedback stating that it was a beneficial seminar with many questions.

We would like to make this a regular event, as the desire to host it annually was a popular opinion.

There were 35 participants.

22nd JAOS/FGER Meeting Held

The 22nd JAOS/FGER (Foreign Government Educational Representative) Meeting was held. Information was exchanged between participating organizations in a lively manner, with the first part containing announcements by the FGER regarding the latest study abroad trends and activities for the year, the second part involving the sharing of statistical data from JAOS and information exchange with a focus on questions from agents, and the third part containing a themed discussion. 28 organizations participated from JAOS, and 12 organizations (U.S. Commercial Service Japan, Japan-U.S. Educational Commission, Embassy of Canada to Japan, Australian Embassy Tokyo Commercial Section, Government of Victoria, Queensland Government Japan Office, Government of Western Australia’s Japan Office, the British Council, Campus France Japon, Philippine Department of Tourism, Taiwan Education Center Japan, and Italian Cultural Institute) participated from FGER.

Carrying out Study Abroad Training for Faculty Members at Kyushu University

In March 2019, JAOS instructor carried out training for faculty members involved in study abroad programs at Kyushu University based on the following 3 topics.

・Knowledge about study abroad programs and study abroad trends in Japan

・General knowledge related to study abroad (basic information, such as study abroad policies in various countries)

・How to provide counseling to study abroad students (including work)

Quality English(QE) Scholarship Award Ceremony

There were over 100 applicants for a scholarship for teachers in Japan provided in conjunction with Quality English (QE), the English education association with an agreement with JAOS, and ultimately 24 recipients were chosen.

QE’s schools providing the scholarships came to Japan, and a scholarship awarding ceremony was held at the Keio Plaza Hotel in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan for the recipients from across Japan.

JAOS Business Seminar in Osaka “Regarding Study Abroad Trends Based on the Latest Statistics and Activities by JAOS”

Based on the results of a surveys of JAOS members carried out in 2017, study abroad trends for Japanese people were explained while contrasting the results against the statistics provided by the Japanese government and JASSO.

The latest activities by JAOS and various activities and projects planned for the future were discussed.

21st JAOS/FGER Meeting Held

The 21st JAOS/FGER (Foreign Government Educational Representative) Meeting was held. Information was exchanged between participating organizations in a lively manner, with the first part containing announcements by the FGER regarding the latest study abroad trends and activities for the year, the second part involving study abroad trends in Asia (Philippines, Malaysia, and Taiwan), and the third part containing announcements by Executive Secretary Hoshino regarding study abroad trends among Japanese people based on data from JAOS. 27 organizations participated from JAOS, and 14 organizations (US Embassy in Japan Public Affairs Office, U.S. Commercial Service Japan, Japan-U.S. Educational Commission, Embassy of Canada to Japan, British Columbia Trade & Investment Office Japan, Australian Embassy Tokyo Marketing Office, Government of Victoria, Queensland Government Japan Office, Government of Western Australia’s Japan Office, Embassy of New Zealand in Tokyo/Education New Zealand, Campus France Japon, Philippine Department of Tourism, Tourism Malaysia, and Taiwan Education Center Japan) participated from FGER.

IALC Scholarship Award Ceremony

With the support of the Japan Association of Overseas Studies (JAOS), the International Association of Language Centres (IALC) last December ultimately decided on 69 recipients out of over 300 applicants for a 4-week language study abroad scholarship for those who seek to volunteer at international events in Japan in 2020 and beyond.

Representatives of the language schools in 13 countries around the world (United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Malta, Spain, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, and China) set to receive the scholarships gathered at the Keio Plaza Hotel in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan to participate in the scholarship awarding ceremony.

Seminar on the Legal Revision of the Protection of Personal Information Law

In accordance to the May 30th enactment of the amended Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI),
we invited attorney Keiichiro Ota to lead the “Seminar on the Legal Revision of the Protection of Personal Information Law.”
Because the definition of personal information has been widened and the handling of personal information given to third parties tightened by the amendment, this seminar covered the risks concerning the management of personal information and important points that should be heeded in correspondence to the amendment.

JAOS Seminar on ‘Eating habits and precautions about disease prevention at your study abroad destination’

We held a seminar on what to watch out for regarding eating habits, immunization and disease prevention while studying abroad, with participation from 11 study abroad agents and 6 media correspondents.
As a little extra information you should know while studying abroad, we welcomed our speakers Ayako Seto (Registered Nurse at Sanofi Health Insurance Society, Health Promotion Centre) and Dr Atsuo Hamada (Professor at Tokyo Medical University Hospital, Travel Clinic) to present a seminar on how to eat (including eating out) while overseas in a way that best suits the Japanese diet, whether getting a vaccination during your studies abroad is necessary, and things to look out for regarding diseases and disease prevention at your study abroad destination.
