JAOS Business Seminar in Osaka “Regarding Study Abroad Trends Based on the Latest Statistics and Activities by JAOS”

Based on the results of a surveys of JAOS members carried out in 2017, study abroad trends for Japanese people were explained while contrasting the results against the statistics provided by the Japanese government and JASSO.

The latest activities by JAOS and various activities and projects planned for the future were discussed.

21st JAOS/FGER Meeting Held

The 21st JAOS/FGER (Foreign Government Educational Representative) Meeting was held. Information was exchanged between participating organizations in a lively manner, with the first part containing announcements by the FGER regarding the latest study abroad trends and activities for the year, the second part involving study abroad trends in Asia (Philippines, Malaysia, and Taiwan), and the third part containing announcements by Executive Secretary Hoshino regarding study abroad trends among Japanese people based on data from JAOS. 27 organizations participated from JAOS, and 14 organizations (US Embassy in Japan Public Affairs Office, U.S. Commercial Service Japan, Japan-U.S. Educational Commission, Embassy of Canada to Japan, British Columbia Trade & Investment Office Japan, Australian Embassy Tokyo Marketing Office, Government of Victoria, Queensland Government Japan Office, Government of Western Australia’s Japan Office, Embassy of New Zealand in Tokyo/Education New Zealand, Campus France Japon, Philippine Department of Tourism, Tourism Malaysia, and Taiwan Education Center Japan) participated from FGER.

IALC Scholarship Award Ceremony

With the support of the Japan Association of Overseas Studies (JAOS), the International Association of Language Centres (IALC) last December ultimately decided on 69 recipients out of over 300 applicants for a 4-week language study abroad scholarship for those who seek to volunteer at international events in Japan in 2020 and beyond.

Representatives of the language schools in 13 countries around the world (United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Malta, Spain, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, and China) set to receive the scholarships gathered at the Keio Plaza Hotel in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan to participate in the scholarship awarding ceremony.
